Apple Tablet Wish List – Real or Not

By Juan Carlos, October 26, 2009 5:29 pm

You’ve probably heard about the Apple Tablet, iPad or whatever they’re calling it these days go ahead Google it.

I think it will be made and we will see it very soon, especially after reports on niche prices suggest Apple fan boys will pay upwards of $800 for it while PCs want to pay less than $600.

I’m a big Apple fan. I love their design and the way they brand themselves. I would love an iPhone but have been holding off because it doesn’t do some things I need it to do (and it’s prohibitively expensive since I would have to change carriers AND pay a deposit).

What do I want in an Apple Tablet? Glad you asked:

I need it to substitute for a laptop: Internet, music, videos, word processing, photo editing, etc.
Wireless connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared and phone network (or a way to tether it through my phone)
Behavior like the iPhone, but better and ability to plug an external keyboard.
Connectivity to a TV, projector or external monitors (monitors, plural).
Decent storage (160 GB is the absolute minimum)

More specifically, I want to use it to display and upload photos to it while I’m on location. Say I’m at a wedding and I upload the photos to it for storage. During a break I can work on two or three photos and show the bride and groom how things are going. I can do this with my laptop, but a tablet would be ideal because I could carry it more easily in other settings. For example, I can take it on a shoot and play a slideshow on it with posing ideas. Once done with the shoot I can upload and I can make annotations on the photos themselves (like they do on that touch computer on CNN). Upload, say, a photo of a model I just shot and mark on it what needs to be changed or improved (dodging/burning, color correction, blemish removal, etc).

It doesn’t need to run Photoshop, but it needs at least the power to run something similar to convert RAW files to jpegs on the fly.

It needs to be fast and pretty and shiny, like all Apple products and if it’s priced at the $600-$800 level, then, it would be very difficult to pass up.

If you had a chance to design your own, what would you want on it?
